Who we are
i2Bopomo is operated by Sciweavers LLC, USA. This policy covers our online keyboards, character lookup, pronunciation references, learning pages and practice tools. For privacy questions and requests, contact admin@sciweavers.org.
The service does not require an account, password or subscription. Visiting a website still involves some technical information, even when you do not type anything.
Information we handle
- Content used by the tools: text you type or paste, phonetic or shape codes, selected characters, saved phrases and personal learning backups. The tools process this content in your browser as described below.
- Preferences and learning data on your device: appearance, editor formatting, saved drafts, Zhuyin settings, phrases, optional learned candidate choices and Zhuyin practice totals.
- Technical information from website requests: hosting systems may record IP address, browser information, requested pages or resource files, referral information, request times and errors. Advertising and analytics providers also receive technical and usage information as described below.
- Correspondence: your email address and the information you choose to send in a support, feedback or privacy message.
What happens to your text
Typing, dictionary matching, pronunciation annotations and practice answer checks run in your browser. The keyboard does not upload your editor text or saved phrases to a text-processing server. Word, image and annotated reading exports are generated locally; importing a personal learning backup reads that file locally.
The browser downloads public dictionary and reading files as needed. Which files it requests can depend on the input prefix, syllable or character being looked up. Those file requests can reveal something about a lookup to the hosting system, even though the complete editor text is not submitted for conversion.
Copy places text on your device’s clipboard when you choose it. Downloads and printed material remain under your control. Other applications, clipboard history, browser extensions and device settings have their own access and privacy behavior.
Our draft and learning-storage features do not send those locally saved contents to us, and we do not use them to train AI models. The keyboard and learning tools do not send editor text, drafts or saved phrases for analytics. Third-party advertising and analytics services also run on live pages and can access page information. Processing text locally does not mean the website is free of tracking.
Saved drafts and learning data
The keyboard saves the current editor draft in local storage and keeps a separate draft for the current tab. A draft can reappear when you return. These drafts are shared across input methods in the same browser; they are not an online account or a cloud backup.
Your chosen editor font, size, text styles, color and direction use local storage so they return after reloading or switching keyboards. Change them in Text style; Reset style restores the default typography. These preferences remain on this browser and device.
Zhuyin settings, saved phrases, optional learned candidate choices and aggregate Zhuyin practice statistics also use local storage. Learning from candidate choices is off by default. Turning it off stops further learning but does not erase previously learned choices; Reset learned choices removes those records. Saved phrases have their own Delete control, and Reset progress clears practice totals.
Pinyin, Cantonese and Cangjie practice results, lesson quiz answers, and the inputs and results of their reading, notation and code tools remain in the current page’s memory. Reloading starts a new session; returning with your browser’s Back button may restore the previous page state. A text transfer between the keyboard and related tools uses temporary tab storage, is consumed once and is accepted for up to ten minutes.
Clear empties the current editor draft, but Undo can restore it while that page remains open. Clear does not remove other tabs’ drafts, saved phrases, learned choices, practice totals, clipboard history or downloaded files. To remove all browser-held site data, close other i2Bopomo tabs, clear this site’s data in your browser settings, and close or reload any remaining page. See our Cookie Policy for storage lifetimes and controls.
Search, speech and external services
When you choose a provider and press Open under Search your text, the editor text is included in a URL sent to that provider. Depending on your choice, this can open a search, reference lookup or social-post composer. The destination’s privacy policy applies, and its URL may appear in browser history. Check the text before opening an external service.
Listen uses a Mandarin or Cantonese voice that your browser identifies as local to your device. It does not fall back to a remote speech service. The tools do not request microphone access or record you. Voice availability and pronunciation depend on your browser and operating system.
Email links open your email application. Messages you send travel through your email provider and are received by us; they are separate from text kept in the keyboard. Other external links, including other i2 websites, have their own terms and privacy information.
Why information is used
The tools use information to provide the typing or learning action you request, remember your choices, and show your results. We use correspondence and operational information to answer requests, maintain the website, prevent misuse and meet legal obligations. Traffic statistics help us improve content and navigation; advertising supports free access.
Where a legal basis is required, these activities rely on providing the service you request, legitimate interests in reliable and secure operation, compliance with legal obligations, or consent where required. Acknowledging this policy is not consent to unrelated tracking or advertising.
Retention and other recipients
Saved drafts, appearance preferences and the Zhuyin learning profile have no automatic expiry set by the application. They remain until replaced, reset, removed by you or cleared by the browser. Tab storage and browser restoration have different lifetimes; the details are in our Cookie Policy.
There is no uploaded-document deletion timer because these tools do not upload your text or learning backups for processing. Downloaded copies are not removed when you clear site storage. We cannot recover browser data that you delete.
Correspondence and technical records are separate from your local drafts. We retain them as needed to respond to requests, operate and protect the website, investigate issues or meet legal requirements. Hosting, email, analytics and advertising providers handle information for their respective services; their policies explain their own retention practices.
We may disclose information we hold when required by law or necessary to protect people and the service against abuse. A business reorganization may transfer such information with the service, subject to applicable protections and notices.
Advertising and analytics
On the live website, we use Statcounter and Yandex Metrica to understand visits and use of the site, and Google AdSense Auto ads to support free access.
Analytics providers may receive page URLs and titles, referrers, IP addresses, browser and device information, cookie identifiers, and page or link interactions. We do not enable Yandex Metrica session replay. Provider and browser settings can affect what is collected.
Google and participating advertising vendors may receive technical information and use cookies or similar identifiers to deliver and measure advertising, limit repetition and prevent fraud. Where ad personalization is enabled, it may use visits to this and other websites. Non-personalized advertising can still use cookies.
See Statcounter’s Privacy Policy and Yandex’s Privacy Policy for the analytics providers’ practices. Google explains its handling in How Google uses information from partner sites and Google’s Privacy Policy. Our Cookie Policy includes provider controls and explains the limits of the site’s current tracking choices.
Security and international handling
Browser-based processing reduces the need to send text to a server, but it does not make a shared device private. Someone with access to your browser profile may be able to see saved drafts or phrases. Avoid entering passwords or unnecessary sensitive information, and clear site data when you finish using a shared device.
We use technical measures to limit requests and reduce common website risks. No website, browser storage or transmission method can guarantee complete security.
Sciweavers LLC is based in the United States. Website hosting, email, analytics, advertising and external services may involve countries with different privacy rules. Applicable protections for international transfers still apply; contact us if you need information about the handling of a specific request.
Privacy questions and requests
Contact admin@sciweavers.org about personal information we hold, such as correspondence or operational records. Depending on applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion or a copy, object to or restrict a use, withdraw consent where relevant, or complain to a supervisory authority.
Drafts and learning data stored only in your browser are controlled through that browser and the tool’s controls. We cannot access or delete those local copies for you. Include enough information to explain your request, but do not send passwords, private text or personal learning backups unless they are needed and we have agreed a suitable way to receive them.
Students, parents and teachers
The learning tools do not ask for a student’s name, date of birth, school or contact details. Parents and teachers should supervise age-appropriate use, avoid placing identifying student information in exercises or saved phrases, and review external search destinations before using them.
Children should ask a parent or guardian to contact us on their behalf. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact admin@sciweavers.org so we can review the situation and take appropriate action.
Changes to this policy
We revise this page when our practices change and show the revision date above. Where required, we will provide additional notice before a material change takes effect. Our Terms of Use explain the conditions for using the keyboards and learning material.
